it's easy being green...in el lay

this past weekend began on thursday with el lay green drinks at the culver city hotel. it was a great turnout of around 60 local greenies. i caught up with some familiar faces and met some new ones including special guest tim harvey, pictured here surrounded by lovely ladies of green (including siel from green la girl thanks for the photo, tim (duh), katrina, alayha, and me). tim is one cool canadian who has traveled around the world from vancouver to vancouver for the past two years on zero emissions! what an inspiration...

the culver city green drinks is held the first thursday of every month, and there is one in silverlake on the third thursday so mark your calendars!

now, biking, walking, and sailing around the world is quite a feat, and tim is looking forward to his final stretch back to vancouver from el lay... but luckily before he headed out to complete his adventure, he played bicyclist of honor at friday night's critical mass in santa monica, a community bike ride to educate motorists that "we're not blocking traffic, we are traffic!" because bikes are transportation too! kachina katrina and i had quite the romantic sunset ride along venice beach to the santa monica pier start point (thanks kk!). there were around 200 cyclists of all ages at the pier when we arrived! so by the light of the full moon, and kk and i singing tim's new theme song "roll if you want to, roll on two wheels around the world!", critical mass found it's way through the streets of santa monica educating patient (and not so patient) motorists along the way, to the awesome after party where cold beers were poured and fun was had with our new biker friends.

i'll tell you, after the intensity of being hit by a car as a pedestrian in venice recently (an experience that i will go into in a later post) i have realized the need to educate motorists about sharing the road.. largely because the road is hard... and cold... and i don't want to find myself laying on it again!!

santa monica critical mass is held the first friday of every month at 6:30 at the entrance to the sm pier (ocean ave. @ colorado ave,) there are other critical mass rides all across los angeles as well as a wealth of bicycling information found at c.i.c.l.e. organization.
